Mindy Athas, RDN, LDN, registered and licensed dietitian nutritionist, diabetes care and education specialist, started at MPCP in 2017, helping to create the initial diabetes education program. With nearly thirty years of experience in the nutrition field, Mindy has worked in Maryland since 2001 and in Nevada prior to that, with both in-patient and outpatient populations. Additionally, a background in communications provides skills to teach all walks of people, helping them reach their goals and improve their health. A prior Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition with additional experience working in cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, renal disease, and prenatal care, Mindy understands a variety of complex medical conditions. Her focus is teaching balanced eating, physical activity and stress management, to help patients improve all areas of their health and life. Mindy completed her dietetic internship through the University of Nevada, holds a BS in Dietetics from the University of Maryland College Park, and a BS in Advertising from Syracuse University.

What Made Them Decide to Go Into Medicine:
Mindy went into nutrition after a career in Advertising where she spent more time reading journal articles and books on nutrition rather than designing ads. She is slightly obsessed with human health, disease prevention and regression, and improving how we can feel, move, and heal.

Favorite Thing to Do in Maryland:
Mindy loves to be outside in nature, walking her dog in her neighborhood, planting flowers and herbs in the garden, or watching the sunset with her family around the fire pit.

One Fun Fact About Them:
Mindy was on the show Friends as an extra back in the 90s.
